Productivity record in container handling on Benin Terminal

Cotonou. 08 March 2018

Thanks to Benin Terminal, the port of Cotonou recorded a productivity record with 131 movements per hour on Thursday, March 8, 2018. This performance marks the competitiveness of the port.

The vessel which made it possible to record this new productivity record, docked on March 8 at 8:30 am on the South Wharf. Operations started a few minutes after berthing and ended in the afternoon. 7 hours and 29 minutes, 981 movements and 4 gantry cranes were required to handle the containers.

"We are proud to have reached this level of productivity at the port of Cotonou. It improves the turnaround time of vessels in port," said Philippe Alexandre, General Manager of BENIN TERMINAL.

This performance opens great prospects to port activities "Every shipowner needs to reduce his stopover time. It cuts the vessel's operating costs and improves the profitability of its port call. The optimization of stopover times might encourage shipowners to give priority to the port of Cotonou in its vessels rotations in the various ports of the sub-region" concluded Philippe Alexandre.
