Abidjan - Côte d'Ivoire. 22 November 2017

Abidjan Terminal, a Bolloré Ports subsidiary in Côte d’ivoire, has received two new, latest-generation ship to shore gantry crane to improve its port handling capacity.

The new cranes have greater height and outreach than the six other cranes already in service at Abidjan Terminal. When they come into service next February, these ship to shore (STS) container cranes will speed container loading and unloading and be able to serve container ships of more than 8,000 TEUs.

With a maximum payload of 65 metric tons (corresponding to two full containers at the same time: "twin lift"), they will complement the existing handling equipment and significantly improve productivity at Abidjan’s port. That means better quality of service for ship owners and clients.

Designed by ZPMC, the world's leader in the manufacturing of port equipment, the two new cranes boast next-generation electronics and innovative control systems. They meet all ship owners' requirements in terms of quality of service, speed and safety.

Competitive advantages for shipping agencies, importers and exporters

Anticipating a regular increase in cargo volumes generated by Côte d’Ivoire’s sustained economic growth, Abidjan Terminal has launched an ambitious modernization plan. The two cranes just received at the terminal are just part of an investment program that has already achieved the opening of a new automated entrance to the terminal in July this year and the commissioning of four rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTG) in April.

The goal is faster, more fluid cargo handling in and around the port and enhanced quality of services for terminal customers.

Abidjan Terminal is playing its role to the full in the development plan initiated by the Autonomous Port of Abidjan which will modernize logistics in Côte d’Ivoire.

Abidjan Terminal has earned a number of certifications: Quality – ISO 9001, Environment – ISO 14001, Occupational Health and Safety– OHSAS 18001, Free Pedestrian Yard.
